CASE STUDIES NEWSPOWER NEWSAGENCY

NEWSPOWER NEWSAGENCY

Project:
Newspower
Client:
Paul
Description:
The owner was aware of the new LED technology and its long lasting and energy reducing benefits. We approached him in early 2013 and conducted a review of his existing lighting. His shop had 21 twin fluorescent light fittings with opaque diffusers. There were an additional 20 rectangular shop lights with focussed lighting on perimeter shelving and displays. His lights were in use 7 days per week with reduced hours on Sunday. There were a number of options, which included a straight replacement of his fluoro tubes with Eureka’s LED T8’s, but he was so impressed with our 12mm thick LED panel lights that are designed to sit in the existing frames of the old light fittings, that he opted for the more expensive panels.

Cost Analysis:

  • 21 x Twin Fluoro @ 72Watts
  • 20 x shop lights @150W
  • Hours of use 80 hours/ wk
  • Rate of charge per kwh 0.28
  • Cost of electricity Fluoro = 21 x 72W x 80hrs x 52wks x 0.28 = $1,761.18
  • Cost of electricity shop lights = 20 x 150W x 80hrs x 52wks x 0.28 = $3,494.40
  • Cost of Electricity existing lights = $5,256.58
  • Existing maintenance cost circa 25% of elec bill = $1,155.79
  • Total cost of existing = $6,412.37 PA
  • Total cost of electricity Eureka LED = $1174.12 + $745.47 = $1,919.59
  • Cost of supply and installation = $5,969.00

SUMMARY :

The pay back is less than a year and a half and the ongoing saving for the life of the product (circa 10 years) is $44,927.00. Not a bad saving when you do the figures!

The new panel lighting uplifted the tired looking existing lighting and modernised the internal fit out. It improved the lighting by upwards of 30% and significantly reduced his energy consumption and maintenance costs.

CASE STUDIES DELISH CAFE

DELISH CAFE

Project:
DELISH CAFE
Client:
Rob
Description:
The owners of Delish, were approached by us in July 2012. We offered to review their existing lighting arrangements at the café in the Floreat forum. After discussing the options, they decided to replace all of their existing Halogen down lights and transformers and install our 240V GU10 down light package. They were constantly replacing either failed globes or transformers and were increasingly concerned about the fire risk associated with the high temperature their existing lights operated at.They were aware of the impact on the environment due to high-energy use and replacing globes this was naturally reflected in their electricity bills.

Cost Analysis:

  • Halogen globe and transformer 58 @ 55Watts
  • Hours of use 6am to 8pm Mon-Sun
  • Rate of charge per Kilo watt hour 0.28
  • Cost of existing electricity 58 x 55W x 14hrs x 7days x 52wk x 0.28 = $4,551.75 PA
  • Cost of maintenance circa 15% of elec bill = $682.76
  • Total cost of lighting (former) = $5,234.51 PA
  • Cost of electricity Eureka 7W led =$5,79.31 PA
  • Saving of $4,655.20 PA
  • Cost of Supply and installation $3,887.50

SUMMARY :

Pay back in less than one year, with ongoing savings of nearly $5k PA, including the saving of replacement and maintenance costs.

CASE STUDIES Ocean Gardens Retirement Village

Ocean Gardens Retirement Village

Project:
Ocean Gardens Retirement Village
Client:
Steve - Stevlec Electrical
Description:
Stevlec the resident electrician for the City of Cambridge, approached us to look at a street light solution for the City Beach Retirement village. The lights currently in use are 80W lamps on 6M poles spread sporadically around the retirement village, with limited results in terms of satisfactory lighting for the retiree’s who navigate by them at night. We consulted a number of our suppliers, considered the environment and the requirement for improved light. We decided on a 30W LED street lamp in cool white with a greater spread. Our LED solution significantly increased the light, reduced the maintenance and of course the energy consumption of the village.

Cost Analysis:

  • 19 x Street lamps 80W
  • Hours of use 14hrs/day
  • Rate of charge 0.28 kwh
  • Cost of existing electricity 19 x 80 x 14 x 7 x 52 x 0.28 = $2,168.86
  • Cost of maintenance circa 15% E/bill = $325.33
  • Total running cost = $2,494.19 PA
  • Total cost of electricity Eureka LED = $813.32 PA
  • Total saving = $1,680.87 PA
  • Cost of supply and installation = $4,990.00

SUMMARY :

The Eureka LED street lamps have a life expectancy of over 12 years and are virtually maintenance free. The pay back is less than 3 years and thereafter the retirement village will save at least $1680 PA and over the life of the product circa $15000. Lights have been in for 5 years with no problems.

CASE STUDIES JEAN CLAUDE PATISSERIE

JEAN CLAUDE PATISSERIE

Project:
JEAN CLAUDE PATISSERIE
Client:
JEAN CLAUDE PATISSERIE
Description:
The new Jean Claude Bakery is based in West Leederville on the doorstep of Perth City. Baking operations and prepartions continue at the original site in Subiaco whilst the final construction phase is being completed. Eureka was invited to carry out an appraisal of the proposed new lighting in the Bakery after upgrading the owners lighting in their boardroom.

Jean Claude and Erna were a little surprised that the builder and electrical contractor had not brought their attention to the latest LED technology and the long term benefits. We were happy to oblige and put forward the following proposal.

The extensive use of surface mounted twin fluoro lights throughout the bakery made the new area look cluncky and didn’t create the modern contemporary feel the owners were after in this state of the art environment. The lights were also not environmentally friendly, were going to cause an ongoing maintenance issue and as we now know are not particularly good for the health of the people working under them.

We suggested our LED panel with a flush mounting kit to enable the lights to become part of the ceiling. The maintenance would reduce to virtually zero for the duration of the life of the product, more than ten years in this case. The light will increase as our 48W units are 1.5 x brighter than the twin fluoro’s and of course the energy will consumption reduce saving the owners money.

Cost Analysis:

  • 82 x Twin Fluoro @ 72Watts
  • Hours of use 84 hours/ wk
  • Rate of charge per kwh 0.28
  • Cost of electricity Fluoro = 82 x 72W x 84hrs x 52wks x 0.28 = $7,220.83
  • Existing maintenance cost circa 25% of elec bill = $1877.42
  • Total cost existing Fluoro lights = $9,098.25 PA
  • Total cost of electricity Eureka LED = $4,813.89
  • Total Electricity saving per year = $4,284.36 PA
  • Cost of supply and installation = $19,842.00

SUMMARY :

The pay back period is approximately 4 years with an annual saving of electricity of $4284. The accumulated saving over life of the product is circa over $40k. The sleek contemporary look, benefits to the environment and the people who will work in this state of the art work place and of course the long term savings and benefits of less maintenance are immeasurable.

CASE STUDIES ESOLA JEWELRY DESIGN

ESOLA JEWELRY DESIGN

Project:
ESOLA JEWELRY DESIGN
Client:
Katie King
Description:
Katie owns and manages the Esola jewellery in Cottesloe WA. Constantly changing her halogen globes as they failed and disappointed with the electricity bills and the heat generated by the globes. She was pleasantly surprised to find the guys from Eureka in her shop in early 2013. They pointed out savings that would be generated as a result of a switch to their 5W MR16 replacement globes and installed a warm white and a natural white globe for Katie to compare with her existing. She was impressed with the light strength and the temperature at which the globes operated (70 degrees). She wasn’t sure which colour she wanted so Eureka left the globes in place and said that they would come back in a few days to see what Katie wanted to do. In the meantime Eureka provided her with an obligation free quotation. The decision was made after some deliberation and Katie fitted out the whole shop on flexible payment terms, negotiated on the spot

Cost Analysis:

  • 38 x MR16 55W halogens
  • 2 x 1200mm T8 fluoro 36W
  • Hours of use 11hrs/day
  • Rate of charge 0.28 kwh
  • Cost of existing elec PA= 2.2kw x 11hrs x 7days x 52wks x 0.28 = $2,466.47 PA
  • Cost of maintenance circa 15% E/bill = $369.97
  • Total running cost = $2,836.44 PA
  • Total cost of electricity Eureka LED = $253.37 PA
  • Total saving = $2,583.07 PA
  • Cost of supply and installation = $1,144.00

SUMMARY :

Payback was achieved in just over 5 months with ongoing annual savings of $2583.07. Needless to say Katie was very pleased with her new lights, the savings generated and the knowledge that she won’t have to get on that ladder again for a very very long time!

CASE STUDIES SUNKISSED JEWELRY

SUNKISSED JEWELRY

Project:
SUNKISSED JEWELRY
Client:
Melia Borg
Description:
Eureka approached Melia Borg the owner of Sun Kissed Jewellery in Hilary’s Boat Harbour in 2012. The shop lights were very important to the visual appeal of the jewellery on display and the issues facing the owner at the time were; cost of electricity bills, the constant maintenance requirement. The extreme temperatures in the shop and the effects on the air conditioning. Finally the discolouration of the jewellery; The silver appeared almost gold as the halogen lights deteriorated over time.

We suggested our natural white MR16 7W replacement globes. These globes come with a 5 year warranty, operate at 60 degrees instead of over 300 degrees. The colour of light is not tainted; it is a natural white which allows the jewellery to project its real beauty. The globes will last up to 15 times longer than the halogens they replaced and only consume 7w instead of 50+

Cost Analysis:

  • 143 x MR16 halogen globes 50 Watts
  • Hours of use 80 hours/ wk
  • Rate of charge per kwh 0.28
  • Cost of electricity Halogen = 143 x50W x 80hrs x 52wks x 0.28 = $8,328.32
  • Existing maintenance cost circa 25% of elec bill = $2,082.08
  • Total cost existing Halogen lights = $10,410.40 PA running cost
  • Total cost of electricity Eureka MR16 7W LED = $1,165.97
  • Total Electricity saving per year = $7,162.35 PA
  • Cost of supply and installation = $5,147.00

SUMMARY :

The annual saving to Melia and Sunkissed is more than $7K PA. The jewellery looks as it now should, untarnished. The heat in the shop has reduced dramatically and the air con has breathed a sigh of relief. There is no ongoing maintenance issue and all in all the exercise has proven to be very beneficial.
